Meet the Pediatric Team
Dr. Sharmila Nair, MD, FAAP, Board Certified in Pediatrics
Dr. Nair, the founding partner of Sterling Pediatrics, is a board-certified pediatrician dedicated to children's healthcare. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Brooklyn Hospital Center and Cornell University, NY, and conducted her research fellowship at NICHD, NIH, prior to her residency. With twenty years of experience in providing pediatric care in the Sterling area, Dr. Nair has also served as a preceptor for Shenandoah University's Physician Assistant Program since its inception. Additionally, she is a clinical preceptor for George Washington and Drexel universities. Her special interests include neonatology and asthma management within her pediatric team. In her personal life, Dr. Nair enjoys hiking, cooking, and traveling. She is married with one child and is fluent in multiple languages.
Dr. Jasmine Hughes, MD, Board Certified in Pediatrics
Dr. Hughes began her journey at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she earned her master's and medical degree. After that, she moved to Baton Rouge, LA, to complete her pediatric training at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, where she became part of the dedicated pediatric team. A native of Virginia, Dr. Hughes returned home to provide exceptional children's healthcare to the children of our community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, exploring new restaurants and foods, leaving Yelp reviews, and roller skating.
Dr. Hughes is now accepting new Medicaid patients for pediatric care.
Kaalyn Zizus, Board Certified APP
Kaalyn Zizus is a certified APP and lactation counselor dedicated to providing excellent children's healthcare. She graduated from Shenandoah University with a Master of Science degree in physician assistant studies and has been a valuable provider at Sterling Pediatrics for over ten years, contributing to their esteemed pediatric care. Kaalyn completed her undergraduate education at the Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biobehavioral health. As a mom, she enjoys cooking, baking, and spending quality time with her family and friends, all while being a proud member of a dedicated pediatric team.
